In a recent post, I asked the question uppermost in my mind at the time: Underwear… Or Not to Wear? In which I confessed my hesitations about actually wearing my beautiful new hand-made lingerie. And your responses (thank you!) were overwhelmingly in favor of a laundry compromise: Wash in the machine, but protect my delicate pieces in a mesh laundry bag.

So guess what? I got myself the bag (shown here), and have been happily wearing/machine-washing/air-drying my lingerie ever since! And I can’t detect any problems at all, either with the bag itself (I had wondered if the zipper would hold up), or with my undies. Hurrah!
Tip: I will say that, due to the rather large size of the holes in this particular mesh, I thought it would be prudent to fasten my bra’s hook & eye closure before putting it in the bag, which seems to work: I’ve not once found anything caught in the mesh when I’ve pulled the bag out of the washing machine. (I unfasten the closure to lay the bra on my drying rack to air-dry.)
This seems like such a simple (not to say obvious) solution, but I have to tell you, it makes a tremendous difference in how I feel about wearing my hand-made undies! And, as a thank-you, especially to all those of you who encouraged me with your comments on that post, I’ve been inspired to include a FREE wash bag with every one of the bra and panty kits in my shop! Yes, each kit you purchase will arrive housed in the exact same bag as pictured above, at no additional cost!
So now I have no more excuses for not wearing my own lingerie, and neither have you! Shop, sew, wear, wash, and be thrilled with your beautiful lingerie!
Good for you! I know there are those out there that say hand wash only, but I don’t know that I’d ever get to wearing anything of mine if I waited until I hand washed things. I use a round mesh container – actually two – one inside the other. I do my bras up before putting them in the washing machine. It’s so great to hear you’re wearing yours now. What a nice touch to add a lingerie bag to each of your orders.

Thanks, Michelle! From what I understand, the big enemy is heat, which is a particular problem for anything elastic. So since I’m washing in cool water, and never putting any lingerie in the dryer, I think I’m being as careful as I can be. (P.S. Maybe it’s just that I’d gotten used to all the thick molded-foam-cup RTW bras, but I’m amazed at how fast my own pieces air-dry!)

I, to, like the idea of washing in a net, and so I also went out and bought one. Have already used it and was quite pleased.

That’s good to hear, Elaine! I have to admit, I was a little skeptical about the difference the bag would make, but I’m totally sold on it now! (P.S. Be sure to let me know when you will be in town! You can send me a PM through the Forum.)
